Rationale
The ultimate goal of literary education in the classroom is to make the world of fiction accessible for children and to provide them with knowledge/skills to be at ease in that world. Learning how to read fiction, reading promotion and enhancing the pleasure of reading are the main objectives. In order to realise these goals and objectives the internet and, more in particular, websites about literature for children, can be of great importance to develop some concrete literary competences, such as:
* Discovering important structural and technical aspects in fictional texts (characters, time, space and setting, composition ...)
* Reflecting on fact and fiction in the stories
* Knowledge about the literary 'landscape' for children: names of books, authors, publishers ...
* Knowing where to find information about books and authors.
* Expressing personal appreciation of a story or a poem and being able to formulate what value a text can have for oneself or for others.
* Being able to evoke expectations and previous knowledge regarding a story or a poem.
* Being able to identify and describe characteristics of different genres.
* Understanding the 'literary system' (production, reception, distribution).
* Being able to communicate own experiences with books and discover/formulate reading preferences.
